Coronary angioplasty and stenting allows a narrow or blocked artery to the heart to be treated without you having heart surgery, which involves opening the chest wall. The procedure is simpler and recovery time is quicker than after surgery.
For patients who have recently had a heart attack (myocardial infarction), or who have had other treatments which have not been successful, coronary angioplasty and stenting can re-open the affected vessel.
Most patients’ angina symptoms dramatically improve after this procedure.
